Ooty

Udhagamandalam (Ooty), the capital of Nilgiri district, is one of the best places to be in the summers in south india as it is probably the best hill station in this part of the country. Popularly known as the "Queen of hill stations' circuits it is situated at a distance of 105 km away from Coimbatore. The height of the hills in the Nilgiri range varies between 2280 and 2290 metres, the highest peak being Doddabetta at a height of 2623 meters.

The Nilgiris, the most popular hill resort of the south has a number of tourist attractions, which mainly include the Botanical Gardens, Doddabetta Peak, Mukkurthi Peak, the Pykara Dam, sprawling tea plantations, Ooty lake, Rose garden and other such interesting places. It has lots of trekking spaces, as almost every place in Ooty can be a starting point. Trekking can be started from any place and from any direction. It also has angling and hand-gliding facilities for the tourists.

The climate of Ooty is pleasant throughout the year. The best time to visit is between February to May and September to November.
